A Vintage Tribute to My Commute !!

Happy New Year Everyone !! ... I hope this year brings all of you a whole lot of love..joy and whimsy !!

In 2011 I start a new job which requires me to travel by the newly developed Delhi Metro, and despite one scary incident involving bad timing, an extremely crowded metro ride and a claustrophobic me, I am deeply impressed by the efficiency of it.

It takes me back to my first ride in the London Underground. I was 12 and felt like I was in an alternate universe, since then I have been waiting for a underground train system of sorts to come to India.

And so my first blog entry of this year is dedicated to this highly efficient public transport system.

Here are some of London’s most innovative underground advertisement designs.

These vintage poster designs were all truly innovative for their time, and you can still see their influence in modern-day advertisements. I guess you just can’t argue with the propaganda style, the contrasting solid shapes of color and brash bold typography. I love the fact that the advertisements travel a whole gamut of categories from sports, fashion and fine dining to war.

I hope that some of these vintage ads influence and inspire you as much as they do me.
