FIFA - Visually Vocal !

I compiled this set of posters for FIFA a long time ago, the only reason I didn't publish it earlier is because I just couldn't find the perfect write up to introduce this, one that will aptly sum my feelings towards football, the role its played in excellent brother-sister and father-daughter bonding. I wanted it to describe the level of excitement I felt before and during every match any of my teams have played. But couldn't so I didn't.
Am too nervous to anyways.. Spain is playing Portugal tomorrow (Fingers crossed )
Below you will see all 19 posters from 1930-2010, 16 logos (first official logo showed up in 1950 for the World Cup in Brazil, and 12 mascots (the first official mascot was presented in 1966 for the World Cup in England).

Chocolicious Designs

Chocolates - an absolutely mouth-watering word. Lately I have been working on developing an identity for a chocolate brand, it included packaging. Chocolate packaging can be very interesting and allows for a lot of creativity... I'll say it again chocolate rules.... Anyhow I sat down with my laptop to find some interesting packaging ideas... and did I get my worth !!!!

Below you will see some that truly captured my attention. From Clinical to Frivolous. From Minimalistic to Ornate. There is a whole gamut of beautiful designs !

The above was a particulary intresting concept. The Bloomsberry Medical Chocolate packaging parodies on popular medical products from Birth Control to Botox. A humourous and witty take on modern medicine with a scrumptuos twist.

Fling, a new chocolate bar for the calorie-conscious, chocolate-loving fashionista. ...I really love the third concept. It makes me feel like I would be indulging in something worth the calories. The colours, and fine lined art make the product seem lighter and therefore not as bad for you as the darker, fuller lined box. Though their dark brown box subtly uses silhouettes inside the box to spell out the word Fling very cleverly and reinforces the brand sensibility.

Askinosie chocolate packaging has got to be one of my favourites. Their concept is very impressive, they all carry a rugged military ration feel with distressed labels that brings to mind war times, old typewritten forms and stamps. The bars feature a wonderful waxy paper that becomes naturally marred like a rugged leather.

Kshokolat is a Scottish chocolatier that uses very minimalist and contemporary packaging. Very bold and seductive.

The My World Chocolate brand was driven by a concern that there's a loss of innocence in children's brands. It's a personal thing for a child. 'My World is about fantasy and naivety. And the use of children's books illustration is adorable ( Ok ..yeah I do have a soft corner for kiddie illustrations)

Their packaging is colorful, informative and simple– displaying a numeric value for each chocolate, the location of its birth and basic details about its flavor. It belongs to a chocolate brand in a cafe in Japan.

Co Couture chocolates - Simple, sexy, stunning, this simple, black box with the branded Co Couture has a subtle touch of color within The series includes a range of flavored chocolate that is as strong and serious on your tongue as the design is to your eyes. Bon apetit, Co Couture!

Mast Brother's line uses funky, wallpaper-style patterns to adorn their latest chocolate bars, Those rich, flowery stylings was very fuddy duddy during granpa times but are so retro and popular today.

The packaging for No9 Chocolate (les noix chocolatees) needs a close look if you are truly to understand it. It is comprised of a cardboard box with nine foil circles arranged on the top. Puncture one of the foils to expose a fine piece of chocolate shaped like a walnut– then take a bite and enjoy. When you’re done with the package, it is fully recyclable, leaving little to no waste from this chocolate experience. Nicely done.

The Divine Chocolate labeling is adorned with playful patterns and the delightful Divine logo, suggesting that this chocolate is for the rich-at-heart and the playful-in-spirit.

Here is packaging that is so delightfully insulting. These bright pink squares of chocolate make fun of you while you eat them, shouting “oink!” with every bite. The front side shows a cartoon pig snout, while the rear explains that you’d better shove these in your gullet quick– before another fat pig walks by and asks you for a piece. Hey, I suppose I can’t argue with that…

Original Beans Chocolate has developed packaging that is as refined and environmentally-conscious as the chocolate brand itself. Beyond the rich, floral design and raised globe icon, the packaging was produced in an entirely wind-powered factory. What’s more, Original Beans Chocolate plants a tree for every box of chocolate they sell. The design preaches a refined sense of environmentalism, and the company backs it up with sustainable business practices.

Now am I not ending on a very interesting note...It’s clear that Victorinox has a sense of humor… as well as a sweet tooth. These chocolates are a celebration of the brand’s bold red iconography born again in chocolate. Aren't they functionally delectable !!!!!!! YUM.

Blurring the lines between Art and Music !

I recently came across an illustrator by the name of Guy Burwell, and so far am bowled over. I love his work and that is not an exaggeration !!!!

He started his artistic endeavors as a child, creating prolifically since the age of 5. He started his commercial art career providing illustration for local newspapers, murals in nightclubs, and posters for underground rock clubs while working at a variety of record stores, fostering the early synthesis between music and art that permeates much of his current work.

The following are just some of his work under the series "Jam Band". His illustrations very aptly depict the smoky drunkenness of a live jazz concert, but what i love most is how he has managed to make the music come alive with the use of such distinct colors and lines.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I did.

Dancing to the Rumble !

So much has been said about the joys of motorcycle adventure. Very few things in life, it seems, come close to the thrilling freedom afforded by traveling on two wheels — preferably through the far flung reaches of the universe, and for as long a journey as possible.

But is it the same when you are the pillion, not the pilot?

Recently me and my friends planned a weekend trip to the mountains on the bike. We were two bikes with four riders and a car with two. Before we left for the trip, I was asked.. Why would you want to go on a bike as a pillion on a long trip, its not like you are doing anything, instead sitting uncomfortably in the blistering heat with not much scope for movement or added comfort. I brushed it off saying you don't know what you are talking about, its a whole new experience, and I stood by that statement, except somewhere at the back of my head I was left asking my self a few questions ?

Was there a ring of truth to what was being said? Was I eager to ride pillion because its the closest I can come right now to riding my own bike or was there really a thrill ?
I think I can be excused these obnoxious insecurities since I wasn't on the bike at the time. After having completed the trip on two wheels I can tell different. I am not sure I will be able to do justice in explaining the experience of riding pillion, but I could not live with my self if I didn't try.

With a glowing sigh, I reflect back upon this fantastic journey. Total satisfaction overcomes me when I think of the wind in my face on my adventures along winding roads in the company of good friends.

Who would have ever thought that one can experience the complete and ultimate exhilaration and adrenalin rush on a bike as a pillion.

Once on the back we cruise along straight and winding roads feeling the horse power and sheer engine thrust from beneath us. The rhythm of loud pipes, the warmth of my riding partner's heated jacket, the crisp of wind on my face, the brilliant sun on my back, the enchanting view over his shoulder. Every detail is viewed from a completely different perspective.
On a bike you are forced to interact with your surroundings in ways you cant ignore, its not like you can listen to your music, sleep or even turn away from the window like you do in a car. You are constantly interacting with the gushing wind, the trees rushing by and everything around.

Every motion affects the performance and handling of the motorcycle. Pilot and pillion ride together as one with the knowledge that the simplest move of a hand or nod of a head can change the stability of the bike. This fact bonds you to one another in a peculiar and blessed way.

The experience of riding pillion, without facing one another has an uncommon, and quixotic closeness that might never happen in any other situation. Together, pilot and pillion are in the poetic sense inextricably tied on a machine that imparts thrusting, gliding and weaving motions. You are dancing to the rumble of the motor, under the sun and the stars. The motions create a position without conflict, a place natural and unnatural at the same time.

When on a long journey, you are ecstatically happy for the first 40 km or so after which your back and legs start hurting, the sun pierces your skin and you are forced to question your choice. This feeling in my experience never lasts more than 8kms, during which there will be some bump or stop that will reposition you on the bike. And you are back to that indescribable feeling of never wanting the journey to end again.

Sitting on Satyen's 500cc standard RE the three words i would want to use for it are......intuitive, powerful and invincible.................. I seemed to have some kind of unbeatable faith in the bike, no matter how hair raising the bends are or how mindless the traffic is, there is nothing that this bike can't cope with.. absolutely nothing !!

In this trip there were rough patches that didn't allow the girls to be on the bike for safety reasons, we were very promptly packed into the car during this time, and the amount I missed being on the bike at that time took me by surprise. I wanted to get out of that cushiony comfort and get back to the thumping discomfort of the bike. I would always be wondering where we are going? did we take a wrong turn? where are the bikes?

And after what seemed to me like ages when I finally got on the bike again, it occurred to me that on the bike it doesn’t matter where I’m going, whether I will get to where we intended. All that matters is that I’m here, and I’m holding on. Pretty damn tightly.
